BMW Motorrad USA updated its BMW CE 04 electric scooter for 2022 with visual updates, a slew of convenient features, a range of 128km on a single charge, and flexible charging options. The Head of Design at BMW Motorrad, Edgar Heinrich, says the 2022 BMW CE 04 sets out to redefine the scooter segment by combining its forward-looking design with superb handling and a high level of comfort which is useful for the day-to-day commute.
The 2022 BMW CE 04 has an avant-garde urban design, with a mixture of traditional styling and modern technology. The low, long body and the diagonally rising front section form an uncluttered silhouette with clear lines, and elaborate details. The flat battery in the underbody frees up space for the side-hinged storage compartment, giving easy access to the helmet as well as the charging cable. Additionally, this storage space can be reached from a sitting position as well. The slim rear end returns in the 2022 update with a swing-arm-mounted number plate holder with lighting. In addition, the side stand is integrated into the styling.
The surface is finished in Light White, complemented by matt black sections in the front and side areas as well as the seat. The 15-inch alloy wheels are finished in black matt with a disc-wheel appearance. With the optional Avantgarde Style pack, the 2022 BMW CE 04 changes to Magellan Grey metallic clothes supplemented with a black/orange seat, an orange wind deflector and several graphics.
The centrepiece of the 2022 BMW CE 04 is a standard 10.25-inch TFT colour display screen with integrated map navigation and smartphone connectivity. The display can be used in full-screen mode or, alternatively, in a split-screen view, which allows several functions to be shown simultaneously. The main display, called the ‘Pure Ride Screen’, shows the speedometer along with the basic functions and selection menu. The additional split screen shows the on-board computer, the on-board trip computer, arrow navigation, a current phone call or media.
The electric motor of the 2022 BMW CE 04 is liquid-cooled, and the radiator is installed at the front of the vehicle. The 8.9kWh battery provides an estimated range of 128km, 42bhp and 60Nm of peak torque. The 147.6-volt lithium-ion battery has a charging time of 4 hours and 20 minutes for a full charge from a 2.3 kW charging cable. A 6.9 kW cable does the same in 1 hour and 40 minutes, while it juices up from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in 45 minutes.
The suspension in the 2022 BMW CE 04 is handled by 265mm twin-disc brakes at the front, 265mm single-disc at the rear. The Bosch 9.3 2-channel ABS allows for independent regulation of the front and rear brake circuits. The 2022 BMW CE 04 features three riding modes: “ECO”, “Rain” and “Road” as standard. An additional “Dynamic” riding mode is available as part of the optional Premium Package.
