Last year, Shehnaaz Gill and Paras Chhabra looked for prospective partners on Colors TV’s Mujhse Shaadi Karoge. This year, Arshi Khan of Bigg Boss 11 and 14 will be seen looking for a partner on Ayenge Tere Sajna’s reality show. The set-up will be similar to a swayamwar show where Arshi will get to pick her partner.
These days, reality shows are far from real. The other day, singer Amit Kumar got embroiled in a controversy when he revealed that the Indian Idol 12 team asked him to praise every contestant. Meanwhile, the channel and the show’s host and judges tried to save the day. Similarly, everyone knew Paras Chhabra was into Mahira Sharma, and Shehnaaz Gill had hots for Sidharth Shukla when they signed up for Mujhse Shaadi Karoge. Bigg Boss 13’s Arti Singh would have been the perfect candidate, as the actress was often heard speaking about finding her perfect match. However, since she was not one of the most-talked-about contestants of the show, the makers didn’t choose her.
So what can we expect from Arshi’s swayamwar show?
Arshi Khan will tell you. Even before the show premiered, Arshi revealed that she has no plans of getting involved with the show’s contestants. Arshi Khan clarified that she is not looking for a partner or a lover and that this is just a reality show for her. “I am not looking for a Sajna, but it’s just a reality show for me. What kind of guy I like, that I will understand after I meet the boys. How can I say if I want Shah Rukh or Salman.”
So, a ‘reality show it is. Since the show involves the confessed controversy queen Arshi Khan, one can rest assured that it will be a cringe-fest. Arshi, with other contestants, could provide some content (read: entertainment) on Bigg Boss, but apart from flirting with the married men on the show and passing crass comments, she hardly did anything on the show. So, will she be able to carry the whole swayamwar show on her shoulders? Now, that will be a challenge for the actress.
Why will it be a cringe-fest, you ask. Let us remind you of the things she said on Bigg Boss 14. As soon as she entered the BB 14 house, she flirted with Abhinav Shukla in front of Rubina Dilaik. She even said, “I can make you papa.” She found a soft target in Vikas Gupta and was often seen bullying him. She even claimed to be his friend, yet was often seen hampering his mental peace by instigating and provoking him to fight.
Though the whole set-up of the swayamwar show will be similar to shows like Rakhi Ka Swayamwar and Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega, it remains to be seen if Ayenge Tere Sajna turns out to be as successful as these two shows.
The whole concept of swayamwar is an outdated thing where one person, be it a man or a woman, gets the upper hand to choose their partner. We already have a dating reality show, Splitsvilla, which has been going on for the last 13 years now and provides us with enough cringe-worthy material. We don’t need one more.
