India to face Bangladesh in Dhaka
India lead two-match Test series 1-0
Questions over KL Rahul’s fitness ahead of 2nd Test
By India Today Web Desk: After winning the first Test match at Chattogram comfortably, Team India is all set to lock horns with Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Dhaka. The Men in Blue registered a 188-run win over the Bangla Tigers in the first match of the two-game Test series.
Rahul Dravid’s men will have the chance to complete a clean-sweep against Bangladesh in the Test series after losing the one-day international series 2-1. As far as Test matches are concerned, India are yet to taste defeat at the hands of Bangladesh and can only afford to lose any more games if they are to qualify for the finals of the World Test Championship.
With a win in the first Test against Bangladesh, India jumped to the second spot in the World Test Championship rankings, only behind leaders Australia. India will be hoping to win their second Test match against Bangladesh and hope for a whitewash by Australia against South Africa to guarantee a WTC final against the Baggy Greens.
KL Rahul, who stepped up as captain of the Indian side after Rohit Sharma picked up a thumb injury, is also in doubt for the second Test match after sustaining a hand injury during one of the net sessions. India batting coach Vikram Rathour confirmed that Rahul was fine, however, his situation is being assessed by the doctors. In case Rahul cannot regain fitness before the second Test, Abhimanyu Easwaran is expected to replace him in the Indian side.
Apart from Rohit, Mohammad Shami has also been ruled out from the Test series after picking up an elbow injury. Pacer Navdeep Saini is also out due to an abdominal muscle strain.
