Bengal BJP has announced that it will provide vaccines free of cost in West Bengal once it comes to power in the ongoing assembly elections. TMC’s Derek O’ Brien has hit out at BJP saying it’s a ‘jumla’.

In a tweet, Bengal BJP said on Friday, “As soon as BJP government comes to power in West Bengal, Covid-19 vaccine will be provided free of cost to everyone.”

Derek O’Brien said, “They promised free vaccines for all during Bihar elections. The election is over, what happened? 2 phases left and BJP says this. Don’t believe BJP.”

Terming the Centre’s new ‘liberalised and accelerated Covid-19 vaccination’ strategy is biased in favour of the market and against the interest of people, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make it free for all.

In her second letter to PM Modi in a week on the Centre’s vaccination policy, Mamata Banerjee also said that vaccine manufacturers should not do business with vaccines at this hour of crisis.

The Modi government on Monday announced that everyone above 18 years of age would be eligible to get the Covid-19 vaccine from May 1.

Meanwhile, the Serum Institute of India (SII) has announced that it will price its Covishield vaccine at Rs 400/per dose for the state governments and Rs 600/dose for private hospitals while the price for Centre will remain at Rs 150/dose.
