Coco Gauff, Taylor Fritz advance to quarterfinals at Indian Wells

Coco Gauff energized from a separate in the third set to beat Swedish qualifier Rebecca Peterson, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 Tuesday and arrive at the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open.

Down 2-4, Gauff battled her direction back and saved three break focuses while serving at 4-all prior to finishing off the match in the following game.

“She slammed me downright awful,” Gauff said on court. “I think today was actually something psychological, simply remaining in the match. I wasn’t playing my best in certain minutes and I wasn’t filling in as well as I’d prefer to, however I believe that my attitude kept me in.”

The 6th cultivated American next plays No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka, who beat sixteenth cultivated Barbora Krejcikova, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

In other fourth-round coordinates, No. 7 Maria Sakkari beat seventeenth cultivated Karolina Pliskova, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.

On the men’s side, reigning champ Taylor Fritz moved into the quarters with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Marton Fucsovics.
