Coronavirus India News Live Updates: With nearly 25,571 fresh cases, the Covid-19 tally in India on Thursday increased to 769,150 with as many as 21,151 fatalities, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

For the first time in India’s outbreak since March, the Covid-19 transmission rate has increased. India’s Covid-19 reproduction number, or R, which estimates the number of people infected by one already infected person, was on a steady decline from 1.83 for months since March 4. However, in the first week of the second unlocking phase in July, the rate has shown an increase for the first time, research by the Institute of Mathematical Sciences in Chennai shows.

Globally, the novel coronavirus has infected over 12 million and killed over 5.45 lakh. The United States continued to remain the worst affected followed by Brazil and India. Dr. Michael Ryan, emergencies chief of the WHO, said the rise in cases was not due to widespread testing, but because the epidemic was “accelerating”.

Clinical trials for Ayurvedic formulations against coronavirus to be initiated in India, US

The Ayurvedic practitioners and researchers in India and the US are planning to initiate joint clinical trials for Ayurveda formulations against the novel coronavirus, the Indian envoy said in Washington, PTI reported. In a virtual interaction with a group of eminent Indian-American scientists, academicians, and doctors on Wednesday, Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu said the vast network of institutional engagements have brought scientific communities between the two countries together in the fight against the virus. “Our Institutions have also been collaborating to promote Ayurveda through joint research, teaching, and training programs. The Ayurvedic practitioners and researchers in both the countries are planning to initiate joint clinical trials of Ayurvedic formulations against Covid-19,” Sandhu said.
