Coronavirus India News LIVE Updates: Today is the ninetieth day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown, meant to curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. India has so far recorded 4,26,910 lakh cases, which includes 13,703 deaths. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Gujarat have reported the highest number of cases. However, the recovery rate is rising and now stands at around 55 percent. A number of activities have been allowed to resume in a phased manner this month as part of the ‘Unlock 1.0’ plan.
Active COVID-19 cases in Karnataka may reach around 25,000 by August 15 if the state maintains the current compounded daily growth rate of 4 percent, a senior government official said today.
The projections are so sensitive that if the daily growth rate is at 3 percent then active numbers can reach 17,000 but if it is at 4 percent then the state could see around 25,000 cases in about 50-60 days, Munish Moudgil, chief of Karnataka COVID-19 War Room, said in a statement.
Amid the uptick of infections in Delhi, the Centre has asked the Delhi government to delineate all containment zones afresh, enumerate all households even outside containment zones, conduct a serological survey among 20,000 Delhiites, and associate every district with a big hospital. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Sunday said these instructions had been given based on a report submitted by a committee led by NITI Aayog member Dr. V K Paul. The report was presented during the meeting held at North Block.
Indian man among two new coronavirus cases in New Zealand
An Indian man is among two persons who tested positive for the novel coronavirus in New Zealand, taking the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the country to nine after having none at all earlier this month, health officials said on Monday. The man in his 30s travelled from India along with his wife. He had been staying at a hotel in Auckland. He came to New Zealand on an Air India flight, director-general of health Dr Ashley Bloomfield was quoted as saying by the New Zealand Herald.
The second case involves a teenage girl who arrived from Islamabad via Melbourne on June 13. Her family travelled with her and had tested negative, Bloomfield said. The teen was also staying at a hotel in Auckland with her family, the report said. However, both of the positive cases, and the people they are travelling with, have now been transferred to a different hotel for quarantine, the report said, adding that both of the new cases were tested on day three of their isolation stay.
