Nabbed in Kota after 1,200 km-long chase
In March of this year, the NCB had raided a drug laboratory in Mumbai. Danish Merchant, who was suspected of running this operation, managed to give sleuths a slip. He had been on the run since and fled to Rajasthan.
Danish Merchant was first spotted in Ajmer and later travelled through Boondi district towards Kota.
He was intercepted following a 1,200 km-long chase at a road check-post set up by Kota Police at the direction of the NCB, Sameer Wankhede, the agency’s zonal director (Mumbai) said.
At the time of his arrest, the Danish Merchant was found to be in possession of 200 grams of hashish. He was booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and remanded to the custody of Kota Police.
Danish Merchant’s residence in Mumbai’s Andheri and his drug laboratory in Dongri were also raided by the Rajasthan Police during this time.
Danish Merchant big catch: Sources
With his custody coming to an end, the NCB sought Danish Merchant’s transit remand. The same was granted on Wednesday.
A team has now left Rajasthan for Mumbai by road with a Danish Merchant in custody. He is expected to reach Mumbai by Thursday evening and will be produced in court on Friday.
Sources tell India Today TV that the Danish Merchant’s arrest could result in the dismantling of the narcotics trade set up by aides of Dawood Ibrahim in Mumbai.
