Four people, including a child, were killed on Wednesday evening in a shooting incident at a business complex in the city of Orange in California, The Washington Times reported. One person has been injured in the incident.
The suspected shooter has been hospitalised after he was injured in a gunfight with the police. This is the third mass shooting in the United States in two weeks.
A spokeswoman for the Orange Police Department said officers received a call about shots being fired at 202 W. Lincoln Avenue in Orange. The two-storey office complex contains a number of small businesses.
An officer was involved in the shooting, but “the situation has been stabilised and there is no threat to the public,” police said in a statement, ABC News reported.
Governor Gavin Newsom called the events “horrifying and heartbreaking,” and said in a statement that “our hearts are with the families impacted by this terrible tragedy tonight”.
“I’m deeply saddened by reports of a mass shooting in Orange County, and I’m continuing to keep victims and their loved ones in my thoughts as we continue to learn more. My team and I will continue to monitor the situation closely,” Representative Katie Porter tweeted.
The incident comes days after eight people, six of them of Asian descent, were killed in a series of shootings at Atlanta-area spas. Six days later, a man opened fire in a supermarket in Boulder, killing 10.
