India has recorded yet another record spike in coronavirus cases with over 96,700 new cases being recorded in 24 hours. With 96,760 new cases, India’s coronavirus tally now stands at 4,562,414.
The Covid-19 death toll has also gone up by 1,213 and reached 76,304 on Friday. A day before, India recorded over 95,000 new cases and the tally was over 44 lakh.
Among the 45.5 lakh confirmed cases in India, there are 943,447 active coronavirus cases and 3,542,663 recovered or discharged cases. The country now has a recovery rate of 77.65%.
The steep rise in coronavirus cases comes at a time when the ICMR has said that the nationwide serosurvey conducted in May has shown that less than 1% of the total population in India has been affected by the virus.
The serosurvey has found that over 64 lakh adults were exposed to coronavirus till May.
Meanwhile, India is now the second worst-affected country in India with over 45.6 lakh coronavirus cases and over 76,000 people dead. Only the United States is above India in the coronavirus charts with 64 lakh cases and 1.9 lakh deaths.
In India, Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with nearly 10 lakh coronavirus cases and over 27,000 people dead. Maharashtra is followed by Andhra Pradesh, which has over 5.3 lakh cases and over 4,700 people dead.
Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have the highest numbers after Andhra Pradesh with over 4 lakh cases each.
