The International Criminal Police Organisation or Interpol has issued Red Corner notices against gangster Iqbal Mirchi’s wife and their two sons.

Interpol has issued notices against the late gangster’s wife Hajra Iqbal and sons Junaid Iqbal Memon and Asif Iqbal Memon. The three are believed to be living in the UK and are likely to be arrested soon.

Mirchi was a known associate of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Iqbal Mirchi begun his illegal activities way back in 1970 by stealing goods from the Mumbai Dockyard and selling them in local markets. He later got into smuggling and the drugs business became his mainstay. He is said to have died in 2013 in the United Kingdom.

The Interpol notices come days after a special PMLA court in Mumbai declared Iqbal Mirchi’s wife Hajra and their two sons as Fugitive Economic Offenders (FEO) and directed the seizure of their properties.

The ED had filed a plea seeking the trio to be declared FOEs in December 2020. ED requested the court for the confiscation of the Mirchi family’s 15 properties, including two floors of Ceejay House in Worli.

On the basis of the chargesheet filed by ED on December 9, 2019, before the Special PMLA Court, open-ended NBWs (non-bailable warrants) were issued against Asif Memon, Junaid Memon and Hajra Memon. At least five have been arrested so far in connection with this case.
