Royal Challengers Bangalore will have a new opening batting combination and the Director of Operations for the team, Mike Hesson, said that he is very excited to watch skipper Virat Kohli come up the order with talented youngster Devdutt Padikkal.

Kohli has usually batted at the No.3 position for the team and often gone down the order depending on the situation to let star batsman AB de Villiers and others come ahead of him.

“Really looking forward to Virat opening the batting with Devdutt. You know, left-right combination, different types of players and obviously we know Virat’s record after he gets through the powerplay, he’s phenomenal.

“So especially if he bats at the top, it’s a slightly different structure and as I said, that helped determine our auction planning as well,” Hesson said on ‘Bold Diaries’.

Certainly talked about Virat opening batting, says Hesson

Hesson also confirmed that Virat Kohli’s recent announcement during the post-match conference after the win in the 5th T20I against England, that he will also open the batting for the RCB in IPL 2021 was something that the team had spoken about earlier.

“Certainly, we talked about it before the auction because that came in our auction planning in terms of how we wanted to structure our lineup, so certainly no surprise there. Delighted that he got an opportunity for India to open the other day and show everybody exactly what he’s capable of. We certainly know that but just another reminder for everybody,” Hesson added.

In IPL 2020, Devdutt Padikkal opened the innings with Aaron Finch, and while the Indian youngster had a dream season with over 400 runs in his debut year, the Australia captain had a poor outing with just 268 runs from 12 matches.
