Earlier this month, Jio removed the charges for off-net calls as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) abolished the interconnected usage charges (IUC). After this development, all prepaid plans by Jio revised the prepaid plans to offer free domestic calls to any network. Additionally, Jio removed the complimentary data it was giving with prepaid plans in compensation to the IUC. As part of its New Year offer, Jio is giving a plan priced at Rs 555 with 1.5GB daily data, unlimited calling, 100 SMS with 84-days validity.
Now the benefits for the prepaid plans Jio is giving with 28 days validity are as follows:
Jio Rs 129 prepaid plan: This plan offers 2GB high-speed data for 28 days now coupled along with free domestic voice calls. This plan was brought in by Jio as part of the New Year offer and is not listed on Jio’s website.
Jio Rs 199 prepaid plan: This prepaid plan offers 1.5GB daily data, unlimited calling benefits and 100 SMS and a complimentary subscription to Jio apps.
Jio Rs 249 prepaid plan: This prepaid plan offers 2GB daily data, unlimited calling benefits and 100 SMS and a complimentary subscription to Jio apps.
Jio Rs 349 prepaid plan: This plan gives 3GB daily data, unlimited calling benefits and 100 SMS with 28 days validity and complimentary subscription to Jio apps.
Jio Rs 401 prepaid plan: This plan offers the same benefits as the above-stated plan with a complimentary subscription to Disney+ Hotstar for a year at no additional cost.
Jio also offers prepaid plans with 24-days validity.
Jio Rs 149 prepaid plan: This plan by Reliance Jio gives 1GB of data per day with free voice calls to all networks. This comes with a validity period of 24 days.
Jio has stopped offering additional data with its top-up plans priced at Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 500 and Rs 1000. The plans brought with them complimentary 1GB, 2GB, 5GB, 10GB, 50GB and 100 GB data. Jio on its website had noted that for every Rs 10 spent on off-net mobile voice calls, an additional complimentary 1 GB data would be credited to the customer account. Now, Jio has scrapped off the additional data it was given in compensation to the inter-connected usage charge for Jio to non-Jio calls. The top-up plans will now offer only Talktime benefits.
While Jio announced that all domestic calls made to any network from Jio would be free from January 1, 2021, Airtel and Vodafone Idea, now Vi noted that they never charge users for making calls to other networks, thus TRAI’s development will not bring any change in the telcos’ plans.
