Militants ambush CRPF convoy in J&K, 1 jawan killed in action, 3 injured

One CRPF jawan was killed in action on the outskirts of J&K's Srinagar on Thursday when militants attacked a convoy of security personnel.

Militants attacked a convoy of CRPF personnel in Lawaypora, on the outskirts of Srinagar on Thursday. One CRPF jawans were killed in action and another three suffered severe injuries, J&K Inspector General (IG) Vijay Kumar said.

“Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) involved in this attack,” IG Vijay Kumar said.

Initial inputs indicate that a group of militants opened fire at a CRPF convoy in the Lawaypora area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district. The incident took place at the Lawaypora Main Chowk.

Four CRPF jawans suffered bullet wounds and were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment where one of them succumbed. Another three jawans are undergoing treatment.

Security forces have cordoned off the area of Lawaypora in a bid to apprehend the militants.

On March 22, security forces gunned down four militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian following an intense encounter.

Officials had told media outlets at the time that militants opened fire at security forces in the Manihal area of Shopian. The attack took place during an operation launched by Shopian Police and the Army, J&K Police DG Dilbagh Singh said to India Today.
