Narrow escape for former MP CM Kamal Nath as elevator drops 10 ft at Indore hospital

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath and other Congress leaders had a narrow escape after the elevator they were in malfunctioned.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath had a narrow escape on Sunday when the elevator in which he was traveling in malfunctioned. Kamal Nath was accompanied by other Congress leaders as well.

What happened?

Kamal Nath and the leaders were visiting former minister Rameshwar Patel at a private hospital in Indore when the incident happened. He was accompanied by Congress leaders Sajjan Singh Verma and Jitu Patwari. After reaching the hospital, all the leaders boarded the lift but it malfunctioned.

When Kamal Nath and other leaders went inside an elevator to reach Patwari’s ward updstairs, instead of going upwards, the lift dropped 10 feet downstairs.

As soon as the lift fell, Kamal Nath’s security personnel ran downstairs where the lift fell. The doors of the elevator had jammed. A lift engineer was called and all the leaders including Kamal Nath were rescued by breaking the elevator door. Fortunately, no leader in the lift was hurt.

CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan orders probe

After the incident, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke to former Chief Minister Kamal Nath over the phone and has ordered probe into the incident.

He tweeted, “Received information about the fall of former Chief Minister Kamal Nath ji and other colleagues in a lift at private hospital of Indore. Asked about his health on the phone. All are well by the grace of God. Indore collector has been ordered to investigate this accident..

Meanwhile, Congress has alleged that the elevator breakdown in Indore was a serious security lapse for former Chief Minister Kamal Nath. Congress spokesperson Narendra Saluja said that the incident of the fall of the lift is very unfortunate. “This is negligence and omission in the security of Kamal Nath. It should be investigated and action should be taken on the hospital,” he said.
