No Confidence Motion by Opposition, Mainly Congress, Defeated by PM Modi

On the same day, PM Modi was all set to make his speech on this proposal of "No Confidence Motion in Lok Sabha." PM Modi addressed the house and said that the Centre and the State are doing their best to take complete control over the situation going on in Manipur. He further added that there would be peace in Manipur very soon and culprits would face strict punishments.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, after returning to the Parliament after 4 months, attacked the Modi government and insisted on passing the No Confidence Motion in India against the NDA. He targeted BJP over its handling of the continued violence in the state of Manipur that has been going on since April 2023. In this article, we define no confidence option and discuss recent updates related to it.

How to Conduct a Vote of No Confidence?

Let’s begin by addressing the questions, such as “what is no confidence motion?”, “How to conduct a vote of no confidence?”, “Explain no confidence motion”, etc. It is like an appeal that the opposition makes to show that the members of the Parliament no longer trust the ruling government. If this appeal receives the support of at least 50 members of the house, then it is passed on to the speaker, who then sets it as a priority. Finally, the speaker calls out the leader of the Ruling government, that is, the Prime Minister, to prove their worth for further ruling.

Rahul Gandhi Proposed for the Motion

Once the no confidence motion meaning is clear, let’s move on to what happened recently in the Indian Parliament. Rahul Gandhi said that he visited Manipur and saw that people there are in absolute pain, and the PM has no concern for them. He further added that PM Modi did not even care to visit Manipur even once ever since the violence broke out.

Rahul was supported by fellow party members, including K Suresh, Gaurav Gogoi and many others. MPs from other parties, such as Dimple Yadav from Samajwadi Party and Manoj Jha from RJD, also supported the motion.

The Walk Out from Parliament

The merged opposition, now known as the India bloc, also staged a walk out from the Parliament on Thursday to display their distrust over the ruling party. On the same day, PM Modi was all set to make his speech on this proposal of “No Confidence Motion in Lok Sabha.” PM Modi addressed the house and said that the Centre and the State are doing their best to take complete control over the situation going on in Manipur. He further added that there would be peace in Manipur very soon and culprits would face strict punishments.

PM Modi Defeated the Motion on Thursday

After justifying their work on Manipur, Modi attacked the opposition by saying that they were frustrated after being rejected by the people and defeated several times. He further said that it was the Congress that supported caste differences in North East for decades, and whatever happened in Manipur is a reflection of that. The PM also kept on digging older graves and said that India was on the verge of bankruptcy back in 1991 when Congress was the ruling party and is now among the top 5 economies in the world under his leadership. He showed his belief in empowering India to be in the top three by 2028. After Modi’s speech, votes were cast in the house, and BJP, with its majority, defeated the No confidence motion in Parliament in no time.
