Panipat Police in Haryana has arrested a man from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly cheating three women and marrying them. He is also accused of having killed his second wife, his son and a relative when she discovered that he was already married to someone else.

With his arrest, the police on Thursday claimed to have solved an inter-state mystery of three skeletons that were recovered from a house located in the Shiv Nagar area of Panipat on Tuesday.

What is the incident?

On Tuesday, a woman named Saroj found three skeletons buried in a room inside her home while carrying out some renovation work.

She had purchased this house in 2017 from one Pawan who worked at a sugar mill. Police investigation revealed that Pawan had, in turn, purchased the house from one Ahsan Saifi, who at the time of the investigation was living in Kashiram Aawas Colony in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh.

Police said they were suspicious about Ahsan because his old neighbours said his conduct was suspicious. Once traced to Bhadohi, Ahsan Saifi was arrested.

According to police, during interrogation, he confessed to killing his second wife, Nazneen, his son and a 15-year-old relative.

Ahsan was produced before a local court in Panipat that sent him to 10-day police remand.

The matrimonial sites

Police said Ahsan Saifi duped gullible women who were seeking grooms on matrimonial sites on the pretext of marrying them.

Cops said Ahsan worked as a carpenter and had been an active social media user. He created a profile on a leading matrimonial website.

It was on this website where he met Nazneen, a Mumbai resident, and later married her. According to police, he did not inform Nazneen about his first marriage and kept her in the dark.

After marrying her, he shifted to Panipat. Meanwhile, he would also visit his first wife and three children who lived in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.

When Nazneen came to know that Ahsan was already married, she did not allow him to see his first wife. This reportedly strained their relation.

In November 2016, the police said, he finally decided to kill Nazneen and two children by poisoning them. He buried their bodies by digging up one of the rooms and later sold the house to Pawan.

Ahsan has reportedly confessed to his crime and told police that the three skeletons found in the Panipat house were of his wife Nazneen (35), his son Sohail (14), and Nazneen’s brother-in-law Shabir (15).

After burying the bodies, he sold the house and married a third time. He was living with his third wife in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh when he was arrested by the police.
