On Mahesh Bhatt’s 73rd birthday, Shabana Azmi calls him an integral part of her life

Shabana Azmi penned an emotional note for her friend Mahesh Bhatt on his 73rd birthday. The filmmaker directed Shabana's 1982 film Arth.


Mahesh Bhatt is celebrating his 73rd birthday today, September 20. His old friend, Shabana Azmi, took to social media to wish him a happy birthday. The veteran actress posted a photo of the filmmaker and penned a heartwarming note for him. Reminiscing how Bhatt gave her one of her best films, Arth, and introduced her to J Krishnamurti and Bob Dylan, she wrote that he will always be an integral part of her life.


Mahesh Bhatt celebrated his 73rd birthday with Alia Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor, while Shaheen Bhatt and Soni Razdan joined them virtually. The filmmaker has been receiving birthday wishes from his friends and colleagues. Shabana Azmi, who worked with him on their film Arth (1982), also penned an emotional note for Bhatt.

Shabana shared a photo of the birthday boy and wrote, “Salgirah Mubarak my dearest #MaheshBhat. You gave me #Arth and wrenched a performance out of me that I didn’t know I was capable of. You introduced me to JKrishnamurti and Bob Dylan we spent hours discussing different books we had read, we loved Begum Akhtar…All this and much more.. Whether we meet up or not you will always be an integral part of my life. Thank you dear one (sic).”


Alia Bhatt organised a quiet birthday bash for her father Mahesh Bhatt on Sunday night. The party was attended by her boyfriend, Ranbir Kapoor, and sister, Pooja Bhatt. Mahesh’s wife, Soni Razdan, and another daughter, Shaheen Bhatt, joined the party virtually. Alia shared a couple of pictures from the celebration on her Instagram account. She wrote, “73 years young! Happy birthday papa (sic).”

Pooja Bhatt also shared two photos of Alia and Mahesh on her Instagram account. She wrote, “The birthday boy… But don’t miss the setting girl! (sic).”

Mahesh Bhatt is a renowned filmmaker who has made films such as Arth, Zakhm, Aashiqui, Daddy, Sadak, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Sadak 2, among others.
