Savitribai Phule Pune University has cleared the air about the Oxy Park scheme i.e. to charge people who come for a walk in the university. It came to notice that the university was planning to start a membership plan for joggers from Rs 1000 a month to 10,000 a year. The university was planning to include an open gym, parking area, and walking area. However, these facilities were free earlier.
The plan for Oxy Park was on hold and the university was asked to work on it from the beginning.

Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant tweeted and refuted these claims against the university.
People’s reactions on SPPU Membership plan
As the university planned to start membership plans for people to enter the premises, students and locals expressed discomfort.
The university proposed to give facilities like emergency medical aid, Covid ambulance, annual social festival tickets, and gym to the members.
Locals used to come for a walk inside the university area, however, there has been an evident reduction in the footfall after the second wave of Covid-19 hit the country. Among the joggers, there are people like famous businessman Arun Firoda, famous advocate SK Jain, Social worker Shantilal Muttha, who have been visiting the university for 35 years. “It is wrong to pay money for fresh air inside the campus,” Shantilal Muttha said.
Businessman Arun Firodia also agreed with Shantilal Muttha. Moreover, he warned about the number of people visiting the university as it could be dangerous amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
When asked about Oxy Park, Praful Pawar, Registrar, SPPU, said, “This decision was taken during a governing council meeting. however, it was stopped as soon as we got the orders from the higher education authorities.”
Therefore, people can come for a walk inside the campus which is 411 acres.

SPPU Oxy Park scheme was planned to be launched on International Yoga Day, June 21. The membership plans were such that Rs 1000 for a month, Rs 5500 for six months, and Rs 10, 000 per month year along with a membership identity card and a suitable slot for each member.
