Mumbai Indians star batsman Suryakumar Yadav, who was finally rewarded for his consistency, acknowledged that he was feeling proud that he was going to represent India in the coming month after he earned a maiden international call-up for the upcoming T20 International series against England.
Suryakumar has been a consistent performer for Mumbai Indians for the last few years and played a key role in Rohit Sharma led side’s 5th Indian Premier League title triumph in IPL 2020. In IPL 2020, Yadav averaged 40.22 but his strike rate of 155.36 was at an all-time high. And 10 years since his Mumbai debut, there he was, a twinkling name in the T20I squad for the series against England.
Speaking to India Today Sports Consulting Editor Boria Majumdar on Sports Today, Suryakumar Yadav revealed how he went into a flashback after getting the news of his maiden international call-up and recalled how his parents supported him throughout the journey.
“I am feeling proud that I am going to represent my country in the coming month. I think I went in the flash where everything from where I started cricket, how my parents supported me, everything started playing in my mind when I got the news yesterday,” Suryakumar said.
Suryakumar was overlooked for the limited-overs matches in Australia late last year despite a fine IPL, leaving many in the Indian cricket fraternity surprised.
“And I actually came from practice, I was sitting in the room, waiting to go for a shower and that time I got the news, I was very happy. I was just sitting in one place and thinking, there were a lot of butterflies, yes,” Suryakumar added.
