Two persons were killed by unidentified persons at Gagaha in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur on Wednesday night, police said.
Shambhu Sharan Maurya, 35, who ran an electronic shop in Gagaha area of Gorakhpur, was shot by unknown assailants on Wednesday. Police said Shambhu’s helper Sanjay Pandey, 42, was also killed in the attack.
The incident took place late Wednesday night when the two were preparing to close the shop for the day. Two bike-borne masked men barged into the shop and opened fired at them.
Shambhu Sharan Maurya and Sanjay Pandey were taken to a hospital but died on the way, police said.
“Two people, including a shop owner and his servant, were shot by a few unidentified people in Gorakhpur district’s Gagaha area,” Dinesh Kumar, Gorakhpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) told news agency ANI on Wednesday.
The police official added that a case was registered and six teams formed to nab the accused.
Meanwhile, tension gripped the area after the incident. Traders and villagers blocked the Gorakhpur-Varanasi highway. Some even hurled stones at vehicles during their protest. Police officials rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
