Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan wants his team to win the Indian Premier League this season so that he can use the winning cup to drink coffee.
Shah Rukh was at his wittiest best during a question-and-answer session with his fans on Twitter where one person asked him whether KKR will win the trophy this year or not. The Bollywood superstar’s reply had the typical humour that Shah Rukh is known for.
“Bhai kkr cup layegi na is baar?” a twitter user by the name md Ibrar asked Shah Rukh.
“I hope so. I want to start drinking coffee in that only!,” Shah Rukh replied on the question.
Kolkata Knight Riders last won the IPL title in 2014, which was their second triumph under former skipper Gautam Gambhir before he went to Delhi Capitals in 2018.
Dinesh Karthik, who was bought for a whopping Rs 7.40 crore in the 2018 auction, then stepped into Gambhir’s shoes and took charge of KKR from the 11th edition. They finished third in the tournament in 2018 but failed to even reach the playoffs in the last two seasons.
Karthik decided to hand over the captaincy to Eoin Morgan in the middle of last season. The wicketkeeper led KKR in 37 games overall in which he won 19 and lost 17.
The high-profile team will open their IPL 2021 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on April 11.
