The Shiv Sena has hit out the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its latest Saamana editorial after the collapse of the Puducherry government. It has said that the same tactic will not work in Maharashtra.
BJP’s desire to topple the government in Maharashtra will only remain a dream, said the Shiv Sena mouthpiece on Wednesday. The Shiv Sena also warned BJP to not forget that it is running the government in Maharashtra and is not like other Congress-ruled states. It may be noted that Congress is also part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition government in Maharashtra.
The Shiv Sena also raised questions on the role of governors and central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation and Income Tax among others. The Saamana editorial said that governors and central agencies are being “used” to break legislators supporting governments in respective states. It said that prominent Congress leaders have raised this issue several times.
Taking a dig at governors in Maharashtra and Puducherry the editorial said, the former Puducherry Governor Kiran Bedi did not allow the Nnraayanswamy government to function properly.
“As Puducherry is a Union Territory, the governor of the state has more authority. So, Kiran Bedi started changing every decision taken by the chief minister in the public interest. However, without the order of Delhi, the governor would not behave like this,” the editorial said.
“Whether the Governor of Maharashtra or Puducherry, they have to do the lifting of the order of Delhi only. The governor is used like the curry leaves on a food plate. Kiran Bedi has also been thrown like curry leaves, the one in Maharashtra (Governor) should understand this,” the Saamana editorial added.
The Shiv Sena through its editorial also highlighted that the BJP has shown arrogance by “toppling the government” in Puducherry.
“Five MLAs supported the Congress government for four and a half years. But now all these MLAs have become whirlpools of lotus flowers. The assembly election was about four months away. Till then BJP or central government could stop. But by toppling the government there (Puducherry), the BJP has proved its arrogance,” the editorial claimed.
Uddhav Thackeray’s party also made it clear that ‘Operation Lotus’ will not work in Maharashtra as some BJP leaders have claimed. “Maharashtra is far away,” the editorial stated.
“There was Congress in Madhya Pradesh and Puducherry. There is Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, so do not get into any unnecessary turmoil.”
Congress losing ground
The editorial also highlighted the diminishing grip of the Congress party in South India. “Congress once dominated the South. Today, even Puducherry is no longer in his hands. There is now a Congress government in Punjab, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh in the country,” the Saamana editorial said.
The Shiv Sena also raise a concern about how leaders from different parties in the country are putting ideology aside and switching sides. However, the Shiv Sena made it clear that the decision taken by the people of Maharashtra will not change and those who are dreaming can “keep dreaming”.
