Apple has released second release candidate (RC) versions of its major operating systems, iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, macOS 15.2, and more, signalling an imminent public launch of software updates featuring AI capabilities.
The new release candidates—including iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2, visionOS 2.2, and tvOS 18.2—introduce groundbreaking Apple Intelligence features that leverage generative AI technologies. Developers and public beta testers can now access these RC builds, with iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 sporting build number 22C151.
Key features in this update centre on Apple Intelligence, introducing revolutionary tools like Image Playground, Genmoji, and Visual Intelligence. Users can generate custom emoji characters, create illustrated images through simple text prompts, and leverage AI-powered visual recognition capabilities.
Notably, the update includes seamless ChatGPT integration, allowing Siri to hand off complex queries to OpenAI’s platform when unable to provide a comprehensive response. No ChatGPT account is required, and user privacy is maintained through Apple’s strict data protection protocols.
The new features will initially be available on devices with M-series chips or specific iPhone models, including iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16. Apple is gradually rolling out access, and interested users can join a waitlist for image generation tools.
Writing Tools receive enhanced functionality, now supporting more flexible tone and content modifications. The update also expands Apple Intelligence’s language support to include English variants from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
A public release is anticipated this week in December.
