Apple continues global rollout of Vision Pro, but India not in list yet

Apple

Apple is currently focusing on the global rollout of Vision Pro. However, India remains absent from the launch list. According to industry analysts, Apple is likely to delay the launch due to high pricing and niche market factors.

In Short

  • Apple Vision Pro launching in Taiwan on December 17
  • Apple is also reportedly working on next-gen Vision Pro with advanced M5 chip
  • But no India launch date has been announced yet

Apple is currently focusing on the global rollout of its Vision Pro. The Cupertino giant has already launched its VR headset in several countries, including the US, UK, China, Japan, and others, with Taiwan being the next destination. The headset will be available in Taiwan starting Tuesday, December 17, with pre-orders opening on Thursday, December 5, at 9 am.

Ahead of the launch, Apple has also updated its website for the region with detailed product information, pricing, and customisation options, such as storage capacities and ZEISS optical inserts for vision correction. Additionally, Apple’s two retail stores in Taipei will offer 30-minute demo sessions to help potential buyers experience the device’s features firsthand. Specific details about these demo sessions will be shared after pre-orders begin, as reports and MacRumors. While this marks availability in more countries, India is not yet included in the list of global launches.

Since its debut in the United States in February 2024, Apple has steadily expanded the Vision Pro’s availability to various international markets. In June and July, the headset became available in countries like Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore. South Korea and the United Arab Emirates were the most recent additions before Taiwan.

Despite being one of Apple’s key growth regions, there has been no announcement regarding when—or if—the Vision Pro will launch in India. According to speculation, the Vision Pro’s high price—$3,499 in the U.S.—and the premium cost and niche audience for mixed-reality devices could be contributing factors. Analysts predict that when the headset arrives in India, it will carry a premium price tag, potentially nearing Rs 3 lakh. This steep cost could pose challenges for mass-market adoption, even among Apple’s loyal customer base.

While the Vision Pro’s rollout continues—with no India launch on the horizon—Apple is reportedly already working on the next generation of its mixed-reality headset. According to reports by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the second-generation Vision Pro is expected to launch between late 2025 and early 2026. The successor will likely feature incremental design updates, focusing on internal enhancements such as integrating a more advanced M5 chip. This chip, expected to debut in 2025 alongside new iPad Pro and Mac models, could significantly improve performance.

Industry rumours suggest that Apple will likely revaluate its broader Vision product line. Plans for a lower-cost Vision Pro model seem to have been postponed. Instead, Apple may introduce a device designed as an accessory to iPhones. This streamlined product could feature a display and battery, with computation handled by a paired iPhone. Such an approach would reduce costs and make the mixed-reality space more accessible to a broader audience.
