Elon Musk’s SpaceX to rescue stranded NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore at Donald Trump’s request

Elon Musk’s SpaceX to

Elon Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that his space company, SpaceX, will assist in bringing stranded NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore home. In the post, Musk shared that US President Donald Trump had requested SpaceX to bring the astronauts back “as soon as possible.” The two astronauts were launched to the International Space Station aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft in June 2024 and have been stranded there ever since.

The Tesla owner wrote in the post, “The @POTUS has asked @SpaceX to bring home the 2 astronauts stranded on the @Space_Station as soon as possible. We will do so. It’s terrible that the Biden administration left them there so long.”

Donald Trump wishes good luck to Elon Musk.

Trump also shared a post on Truth Social in which he wrote that he “just asked Elon Musk and @SpaceX to ‘go get’ the 2 brave astronauts who have been virtually abandoned in space by the Biden Administration.” Wishing Musk and his company good luck, the President added, “They have been waiting for many months on @Space Station. Elon will soon be on his way. Hopefully, all will be safe.”

Musk shared Trump’s post with a saluting face emoji.

Astronauts stuck in space after Starliner delay.

Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore are still in space due to a delay in their return mission. They were initially scheduled to return aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft after completing their International Space Station (ISS) mission. However, issues with the Starliner spacecraft, including technical delays, have prevented their timely return. As a result, they have been stranded in space longer than expected while awaiting a safe and successful return mission. SpaceX is now stepping in to help bring them back to Earth.
