Actor and MP Kangana Ranaut recently expressed her gratitude to moviegoers for showering love on her latest release, Emergency. However, the actor also expressed her disappointment with the film’s ban in Punjab.

Actor and MP Kangana Ranaut has been in the news since her directorial debut, the political drama Emergency, was announced. The artiste recently shared a video expressing her gratitude to those who flocked to cinema halls to see the movie. In the same clip, she reflected on its ban in Punjab.

The actor said, “I want to thank everyone from Zee Studios. You guys have given so much love to our film Emergency. We are speechless. However, I am slightly upset and pained about the state of my film in Punjab. There was a time when people used to say my films used to work the best there. Now, my film is not even releasing in the state. And I have come to know that some of them are even against it in parts of Britain and Canada, and people are being attacked there. A few people are responsible for spreading this kind of hatred. But, we are the ones getting burnt.”

“The kind of love I bear for India is best exemplified through emergencies. You only decide after watching: Is the movie bringing us together or tearing us apart? That is all I have to say at the moment. Jai Hind,” she added.

Kangana’s film has been banned in Punjab after various Sikh bodies protested against its release.

Apart from the imposed Emergency period in 1975 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the film also touches upon her assassination and the Khalistan movement, which Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale led in the 80s, which was highlighted in the released trailer.

Various Sikh communities have accused the makers of misrepresenting and distorting facts.

Apart from Kangana, Emergency also features Anupam Kher and Shreyas Talpade in significant roles. Emergency hit theatres on January 17.
