Amazon India’s head of consumer electronics, Ranjit Babu, one of its largest sellers, has resigned, reports the Economic Times. Citing sources, the report says that Babu’s departure comes amidst a wave of senior-level exits and organizational restructuring in the e-commerce giant’s India operations. “He has resigned and is moving on,” a source said.
In October, Manish Tiwary, Amazon India’s former country head, exited the e-commerce giant, raising concerns about its performance in key markets and categories, particularly in its competition with Flipkart. According to industry insiders, Amazon has been losing market share in core e-commerce segments, even as it prepares to enter the quick commerce space with an offering codenamed Tez, which is expected to launch in January 2024.
Ranjit Babu steps down after 3 years.
Babu, a key figure at Amazon India, played pivotal roles in overseeing top revenue-generating categories during his decade-long association with the company. According to his LinkedIn profile, he joined Amazon in April 2022 as Director, Selling Partner Experience. In December 2022, he took on additional responsibilities after senior executive Noor Patel moved to Amazon US. More recently, in July 2023, he was appointed head of consumer electronics, including the crucial smartphone category, one of Amazon India’s biggest revenue drivers.
Notably, this was Babu’s second stint at Amazon. He worked at the company from 2013 to 2017.
