'This time there will be no appraisal...', said the CEO wearing a 30 thousand rupees t-shirt, VIDEO

People working in private jobs hope to be promoted or get a good salary hike at the time of appraisal after working hard for a whole year. Sometimes a meager appraisal disappoints the employees a lot, but when there is no salary hike at all, people often start thinking of changing their job and complain that the company for which we have devoted ourselves for a whole year did not think about us at all.

Recently, the country’s well-known educational technology company Unacademy also did something similar with its employees. The video of the company’s CEO Gaurav Munjal announcing the decision of not conducting appraisals is going viral and people are criticizing him a lot. The reason for this is something like this.

This video of Munjal from Unacademy’s virtual town hall held last week has gone viral on Reddit. People are calling it a ridiculous apology for not appreciating. The main reason for criticism was the T-shirt worn by Munjal during the announcement. People shared it and wrote in the caption – This is a Burberry black Parker T-shirt with an embroidered logo. Yes, one should not go into someone’s personal things. But now what is is.

Let us tell you that the black Parker T-shirt of Burberry – a luxury British brand – costs $ 353 (about Rs 29,621) and Munjal wore it while announcing not to appraise it, which angered social media users.

Munjal said that 2024 was an above average year in terms of business but Unacademy has not achieved its target. The good thing is that we have a huge runway. I kept saying that there is no threat to survival in the market. But sometimes, as one of my investors always says, when a good team faces a tough market, the market always wins. Munjal said, our competitors have not been able to survive and the market is tough.

Announcing the bad news, Munjal said, “We will not be able to do any appraisal this year. I know I said two to three weeks ago that we will do the appraisal, but when we started the process, we realised we were wrong. I know it is difficult because some of you have not received an appraisal for two years.”

He said, although Unacademy’s offline business grew, it has not been as per expectations. There is no threat to the company’s existence. But yes, growth is a challenge. We are fighting many battles online and offline. People have made a lot of comments on this and have called Munjal good and bad for his expensive T-shirt and announcing no appraisal with a ridiculous reason. People started saying that by wearing such an expensive T-shirt, he is telling that the company is in loss. Will only the employees compensate for this?
