Grammy-winning Colombian vocalist Shakira, one of the world’s top-selling performers, has been deified in her well known hip twirling present in a goliath bronze sculpture in her home city of Barranquilla.
The city’s Chairman Jaime Pumarejo uncovered the 6.5 meter (21 foot) mold in a recreation area along the banks of the Magdalena Waterway on Tuesday in the organization of the vocalist’s folks.
The sculpture by craftsman Yino Marquez “shows a huge number of young ladies that they would be able, that they can seek after their fantasies and any of them can accomplish what they need,” said Pumarejo, noticing that he used to see Shakira sing at neighborhood kids’ shows.
The model shows the long, wavy haired vocalist hip twirling with her arms above, in a sheer skirt with gleaming aluminum design.
A plaque commends the vocalist, who won three 2023 Latin Grammy Grants, and refers to her cause “Pies descalzos,” Spanish for “uncovered feet,” for youth improvement.
“A heart that creates, hips that don’t lie, an unequaled ability, a voice that moves masses and feet that walk to ultimately benefit youngsters and humankind,” it peruses.
Shakira, who lives in Miami, said in an explanation from the city chairman’s office that she was respected by the sculpture and that Barranquilla will constantly be her home.
