Captain Anshuman Singh, an official of the Indian Army Medical Corps attached to the 26th Battalion of the Punjab Regiment, was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award. The award was received by his wife, Smriti Singh.

Captain Anshuman Singh saved his fellow soldiers in July 2023 when, out of nowhere, a fire broke out. In the middle of the night, the fire startled everyone. Without thinking about anything, he risked his life to save his comrades.

His courage, even with risk and his unflinching obligation to his comrades, show the highest standards of military service. His legacy will continue to inspire people in the future, both soldiers and civilians.

Born in 1997 in the village of Bardiha Dalpat, Uttar Pradesh, Captain Anshuman Singh’s journey was set apart by greatness and responsibility. He went to the prestigious Chail Military School in Himachal Pradesh and finished his schooling at Rashtriya Military School Chail. His higher education in military medicine was embraced at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) in Pune, where he specialized in military and high-altitude medication.
