Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg gets India Lok Sabha elections wrong, says NDA lost

Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg recently sparked controversy when he made an incorrect claim about the 2024 Indian general elections. Discussing the global erosion of trust in governments following the COVID-19 pandemic at a podcast with Joe Rogan, Zuckerberg said that public dissatisfaction had influenced election outcomes worldwide. Referring to the elections held in 2024, he remarked, “Incumbents basically lost every single one,”. He specifically singled out India as an example, claiming the Modi-led government had lost.

Zuckerberg said, “2024 was a big election year worldwide, and all these countries, including India, had elections. The incumbents lost every single one. There is some global phenomenon—whether it was because of inflation, the economic policies to deal with ,COVID-19, or just how the governments dealt with COVID-19. It seems to have had this global effect.”

During the same podcast, the Meta also revealed details about the Biden administration’s alleged efforts to influence Meta’s content moderation. He shared that officials had pressured his team to take down certain content, saying, “These people from the Biden administration would call up our team, scream at them, and curse.” Although there were no call recordings, Zuckerberg mentioned that emails on the matter are publicly accessible.

Mark Zuckerberg also aimed at Apple, accusing the company of stagnating in innovation and relying heavily on the continued success of the iPhone. The Meta CEO expressed these views during an in-depth conversation on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

“Steve Jobs invented the iPhone, and now they’re just kind of sitting on it 20 years later,” Zuckerberg said, suggesting that fewer people are buying new iPhones because each version isn’t much better.
