Elon Musk had met Nigel Farage at Donald’s Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida where it is claimed that talks were held for the donation of large sum to the UK’s party.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday said Nigel Farage “doesn’t have what it takes” to be the leader of Reform UK, a right-wing political party in the country, and called for his replacement.
His remarks came just weeks after it was claimed that Musk was in talks with the party to donate a large sum.
The world’s richest man had met Farage last month at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, in Florida, after which speculations were rife that Musk could donate as much as $100 million (£78 million) to the party, The Telegraph reported.
“The Reform Party needs a new leader. Farage doesn’t have what it takes,” Musk posted on X.
Musk unexpectedly called for Farage’s replacement as party leader after repeatedly expressing his support for the UK party. After the meeting in Florida, Farage shared a picture with Musk captioned “Britain needs Reform,” to which Musk replied, “Absolutely.”
Farage has long been friends with Trump under whose administration Musk will have a key role as the co-chairman of the new Department of Government Efficiency.
However, Musk and Farage have disagreed in the past week on the issue of Tommy Robinson, former leader of the English Defence League, who is currently in jail for contempt of court.
Despite repeated praise for Robinson on X, Farage said last week that Robinson was “not what we need.”
“The fact that Musk supports me and supports Reform doesn’t mean, as two grown-ups, we have to agree with everything the other says,” Farage told BBC.
Farage founded Reform UK in 2018, originally known as the Brexit Party, and later returned as its leader before being elected as an MP in 2024.
