Farooq Abdullah draws ‘Indians in US’ analogy over Saif’s Bangladeshi attacker

Farooq Abdullah

The suspect arrested in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case had entered India illegally from Bangladesh. Farooq Abdullah contended that an entire nation can’t be blamed for one attack and went on to draw the analogy of Indians migrating to the US.

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah said on Wednesday that the entire nation of Bangladesh can’t be blamed just because Saif Ali Khan’s attacker was from the neighbouring nation. “There are illegal Indians in the US as well… anyone can resort to anything to earn a livelihood,” Farooq Abdullah said.

The remark comes after Mumbai Police confirmed that Mohammad Shariful, a suspect in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, had entered India illegally from Bangladesh. The attack on the Bollywood actor has shone limelight on the influx of Bangladeshi nationals into Mumbai.

However, Farooq Abdullah contended that an entire nation can’t be blamed for one attack and went on to draw the analogy of Indians migrating to the US.

He added, “There are illegal Indians in the US as well. Trump has given numbers. Anyone can resort to anything to earn a livelihood. Even Indians are illegally immigrating to US.”

Farooq Abdullah then extended his best wishes to Saif Ali Khan, who is recovering after an attack at his Bandra home on January 16 left him heavily injured.

The actor was injured as he clashed with the attacker during a burglary bid. Saif Ali Khan was discharged from Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday after receiving treatment for several days.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police said that the Bangladeshi national arrested for knife attack on Saif Ali Khan entered the country illegally seven months ago and used a West Bengal resident’s Aadhaar card to procure a SIM before moving to Mumbai.

The accused, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir (30), was arrested from neighbouring Thane city for the stabbing incident at the Bollywood star’s residence in Bandra. A court in Mumbai on Sunday remanded the accused in five-day police custody.
