How the New Motor Vehicle Act has created havoc?

The 3-day “Rasta Roko” protest is causing chaos for the passengers as they are hindered from travelling. Additionally, the vehicle owners are suffering because of jammed traffic and long queues waiting at the petrol pumps. People have been stuck in the same place for hours.

In the fear of fuel shortage, people are lined up in the petrol pumps with their vehicles. The Maharashtra government has asked the policemen to maintain a consistent supply of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders. The agitated drivers on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway even injured the police by throwing stones. However, as said by the officials, the situation is under control because of the police intervention.

What are the protestors saying about the Hit and Run New Law?

In their defence, drivers said that no one causes intentional crashes and there are a few factors that fuel the incident, such as fog or other speedy vehicles. At times they flee away because of the attacking mob, who straightaway held the drivers responsible. They claimed that they would have to suffer for the accident that was not led by them as large vehicles are often blamed.

The protestors explained that the Hit and Run New Law in India will discourage drivers and hamper their driving skills. The Hit and Run New Law should be revoked as soon as possible for the smooth functioning of work. As claimed by social media, the supporters of the protests have increased as now cab drivers have joined it.
