‘Jai Shri Ram’: Woman, 85, breaks 30-year-old ‘maun vrat’ after Ram Mandir opening

An 85-year-old woman from Jharkhand, who was on a 'maun vrat' for the last 30 years, while expressing her fervent desire for a Ram temple to be constructed in Ayodhya, broke her vow of silence, saying, "Jai Shri Ram".

An 85-year-old woman from Jharkhand broke her 30-year-old ‘maun vrat‘ (vow of silence) after 30 years during the ‘Pran Pratishtha‘ (consecration) ceremony of Ram Lalla idol at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

In a video, the first words of Saraswati Devi, an unwavering devotee of Lord Ram, which she uttered as she broke her vow of silence were ‘Jai Shri Ram’. As she uttered ‘Jai Shri Ram‘, she became overwhelmed and emotional.

Popularly known as ‘mauni mata‘ (silent mother), the octogenarian maintained an absolute silence since the early 1990s, expressing her devotion to Lord Ram and her fervent desire for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

A resident of Karmatand village in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad, Saraswati Devi took a break from ‘maun vrat‘ and spoke for an hour at noon every day till 2020. But then, she went completely silent the day the foundation of the Ram Temple was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020.

Saraswati Devi’s decision to break her vow of silence filled her family with joy, anticipation, and excitement.

The Ram Temple trust sent a special invitation to Saraswati Devi and her family to attend the grand consecration ceremony at the Ram Temple on January 22 (Monday).

Scribbling on a piece of paper, Saraswati Devi shared that during her vow of silence, she visited Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mathura, Tirupati Balaji, and Baba Baidyanath Dham, spending years in devotion to Lord Ram.

She has also expressed admiration for Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath, referring to the Prime Minister as ‘Dashrath‘ (Lord Ram’s father) and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister as ‘Vasistha‘ (a saint in Ramayana).
