New York: An imam who was shot on Wednesday outside a mosque close to New York has kicked the bucket, a US official told AFP.
Police in the city of Newark, New Jersey, didn’t give a rationale in the occurrence.
“Hassan Sharif was a Transportation Security Official at Newark Freedom Worldwide Air terminal beginning around 2006,” said Lisa Farbstein, a representative for the US Transportation Security Organization where Sharif worked.
“We are profoundly disheartened to learn of his passing and send our sympathies to his family, companions and associates.”
Newark Public Security Chief Fritz Frage had before affirmed “police answered a call of a male shot” Wednesday morning.
Officials affirmed that the man was the imam, and that the episode occurred external a mosque. An examination is in progress.
