Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency wrapped its first-weekend collection at around Rs 10 crore nett in India. The film was released amid protests from various Sikh bodies in Punjab.
Actor Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency completed its first weekend at the box office. The political drama collected around Rs 10.45 crore nett in India, with Sunday’s performance adding Rs 4.35 crore nett, according to the trade website Sacnilk.
Emergency received mixed reviews from both the audience and the critics. The film didn’t get screened in Punjab following protests from Sikh bodies against the alleged ‘anti-Sikh’ narrative of the film, and that impacted its overall performance at the ticket window.

Emergency is directed by Kangana, who also plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film. She is joined by Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Mahia Chaudhary, and the late Satish Koushik.
The film focuses on the political events in India between 1975 and 77, when Gandhi declared an ’emergency’ in the country. This is Kangana’s first film after becoming an MP (member of parliament). The actor is a member of the BJP and won the election last year from her hometown, the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh.
Emergency saw a box office clash with Azaad, featuring Ajay Devgn, Aaman Devgan, and Rasha Thadani.
