Despite the controversial scenes in Adipurush, the movie is running well in theatres. The film has collected a total of around Rs 100 crore in the first three days since its release. According to rough figures, Adipurush day 3 collection was approximately Rs 64 crore (gross). The movie is expected to do better on the fourth day as advanced bookings are high. Adipurush day 4 collection can be around Rs 30 crore. The movie’s director is Om Raut, and the Adipurush cast includes stars like Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan. It is a movie based on the Hindu epic Ramayana and depicts the tale of the demon king Raavan, his wife Sita, and the slayer Hanuman.
Judgment by the Audience
The audience believes that the Adipurush collection and budget are not justified at all. Also, the film has been criticized for its special effects and the portrayal of Gods and Goddesses. Several scenes have been criticized for showing the demon king Rama killing Sita and Janaki. In addition, the VFX of the film was also heavily criticized for being unrealistic and having a low-level quality.
Citizens are Not Silent!
The makers of Adipurush have decided to alter some dialogues after the backlash. This move was taken after a complaint was filed against the film for hurting Hindu sentiments. The complaint has been filed by a member of the Hindu Sena. It was filed on October 7 and asked the court of law to remove scenes that are objectionable. The complaint alleged that the film had hurt Hindu sentiments by distorting the facts of Ramayana and misrepresenting the characters of Lord Ram, Sita, and Ravan.
After the controversy erupted over the movie, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghal criticized the film and said that the film’s trailer was offensive to Hindus. He stated that the government may consider banning the movie in theaters on public demand.
Adipurush Controversy Hanuman
Many consider that the selection of words in the trailer is objectionable and the way Lord Hanuman has been portrayed in the movie is inappropriate. Moreover, he also objected to the fact that Sita is portrayed as an Indian woman in the film. He stated that Sita was born in Janakpur in present-day Nepal.
Response from Director and Producer
The film’s director Om Raut responded to the criticism and negative Adipurush movie review by stating that the movie was made with the utmost respect for the Hindu epic Ramayana and that they are not distorting any facts or misrepresenting any characters. He also emphasized that the film is a work of fiction and should be treated as such.
On the other hand, the producer of the film Bhushan Kumar has defended the film. He claimed that the movie is not offensive to anyone and that it is a product of Indian cinema. He also claimed that the decision to change some of the Adipurush dialogue lyrics was taken after considering the feedback from the audience. He further added that the changes will be reflected within 2-3 days. Despite the controversy, the movie is doing well in theatres and will continue to do so. In fact, it is set to cross the Rs 100 crore mark soon. The movie is a must-see for all Prabhas fans. But, it is important to note that the movie is not for all audiences as the Adipurush movie duration makes it a tough watch.
