The World is Our Own; Let Us Value It with World Environment Day!

World Environment Day is celebrated on the 5th of June and reminds us to care for our environment selflessly. Each year, it encourages people to strive for the protection of our environment. It is often supported by many non-governmental organizations or NGOs as well as government entities and represents the primary United Nations outreach day supporting the environment. The theme for this year (2023) focuses on solutions to plastic pollution, using the hashtag #BeatPlasticPollution and several other World Environment Day quotes.

Understanding the Concept

The global environment is a complex system that is bound to involve both living and non-living things, such as air, water, land, sunlight, and other natural resources. Its state is crucial for the well-being of humans and other species, as it provides essential resources for survival. Unfortunately, the environment is in danger of being overtaken by man-made activities such as pollution, deforestation, and climate change. Fortunately, the environmental movement has taken hold in many countries around the globe and is making significant headway in addressing these issues.

Each year, a different country serves as a host for the event and selects its own unique theme for the day. The themes are designed to reflect the national interests and priorities of the host nation, with a focus on implementing some new and effective plans to save our planet.

Classis Case Study

For example, in 2010, the Chicago Botanic Garden hosted a North American event focused on connecting people to nature through events, concerts, exhibits, and tree plantings. World Environment Day has also been used to promote awareness about the depletion of the ozone layer, leading to a landmark treaty in 1987, the Montreal Protocol on Substances that are known to deplete the Ozone Layer.

Celebration Modes

World Environment Day drawing on recycled materials is an innovative and environment-friendly way of celebration. Use old jar lids or fabric remnants as a canvas to draw your favorite animal in its natural habitat. Then, you can share it with your known ones and family members to show how important it is to protect our planet. Another popular mode of celebration includes World Environment Day pictures that are known for spreading awareness among the masses.

Become a Volunteer

And if you are someone who is eager to get involved with this important global environmental movement, consider registering for an event near you. You can volunteer for a beach clean-up or help out at a recycling station. If these are not possible, you can simply spread the word about climate change and encourage your friends to live a greener lifestyle.

Raise Awareness

Another way to raise awareness is by delivering a speech on world environment day. You can talk about your personal experience with environmental issues, or you can talk about some of the solutions that are currently being planned or implemented in your country. Whatever you choose, make sure to use facts and figures as much as possible to support your arguments. This will enable you to gain the attention of your audience and make a lasting impact on the world. You can also find some samples of a speech on World Environment Day or online to inspire you. It’s our world, and now it’s high time to make it feel valued!
