It has been an excellent few days for Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal with both youngsters playing tremendous knocks during the second Test match against England in Visakhapatnam. While Jaiswal slammed his maiden double century to leave both fans and experts stunned, Gill provided a perfect answer to his critics with a gritty century in the second innings. Legendary Indian cricket team batter Virender Sehwag took to social media to praise both youngsters on their sensational feats and his message for them had a special connection with legends Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.

“Glad to se two youngsters, both under 25 rising to the ocassion and standing out. Very likely that these two will dominate world cricket for the next decade and more,” he posted on X (formerly called Twitter).

The last time that two Indian batters under the age of 25 scored centuries in the same Test match was way back in 1996. It was Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly who slammed 177 and 136 respectively during a Test match against England in Nottingham.

Coming to the ongoing Test match against England, Gill also ended India’s seven-year wait for a Test century by a batter at No. 3. Gill’s knock in Visakhapatnam was the first hundred by an Indian batter at No. 3 since 2017 at home. Cheteshwar Pujara had scored the last hundred for India at No. 3 on home soil in a game against Sri Lanka in November 2017 in Nagpur.

Earlier, Jaiswal became the third youngest Indian to score a double century in Tests after Vinod Kambli (21 years 32 days) and Sunil Gavaskar (21 years 277 days). Overall, Pakistan’s Javed Miandad leads the list, having achieved the feat at the age of 19 years 140 days.
