How India’s T20 World Cup-Bound Stars Performed Right After Selection

India’s squad announcement for the T20 World Cup 2024 raised a few eyebrows despite most of the experts suggesting it is a balanced side. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee announced the team of 15 and four travelling reserves. The selectors have picked 4 proper batters, 2 wicketkeepers, 4 allrounders, 2 wrist spinners and three frontline pacers. However, the exclusions of explosive batter Rinku Singh and leggie Ravi Bishnoi have been one of the biggest talking points since the squad was announced on Tuesday.

Wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul was another player who missed out on selection while young opener Shubman Gill only made it to the list of travelling reserves, also including the likes of Khaleel Ahmed, Rinku Singh and Avesh Khan.

After the squad announcement, as many as seven players from the squad have featured for their respective teams in the ongoing season of IPL.

On Tuesday, shortly after the squad announcement, captain Rohit Sharma, his deputy Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and star pacer Jasprit Bumrah featured for Mumbai Indians against the Lucknow Super Giants.

A day later, Arshdeep Singh of Punjab Kings came up against CSK, who had the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube.

Let’s take a look at how India’s T20 World Cup-bound players have performed after the selection:

Rohit Sharma scored 4 off 5 balls (LSG vs MI)

Suryakumar Yadav scored 10 off 6 balls (LSG vs MI)

Hardik Pandya out for a goldent duck, but took two wickets for 26 (LSG vs MI)

Jasprit Bumrah conceded just 17 runs from four overs, but did not pick a wicket.

Shivam Dube registered a 2-ball duck (CSK vs PBKS)

Ravindra Jadeja scored 2 off 4 balls and conceded 22 runs in three overs.

Arshdeep Singh leaked 52 runs in four overs and picked up just one wicket.

On Thursday, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Yuzvendra Chahal, who are all part of the squad, will feature for Rajasthan Royals in their match against SunRisers Hyderabad.
