Gauri Sawant is the one who filed the petition in the supreme court for the rights of the transgender community. It was all due to her efforts that the transgender community was legally recognized as the third community in India. Gauri has an adopted daughter, Gayatri. After Gayatri’s mother, a sex worker, died from AIDS, Gauri saved her from being sold and becoming a puppet in the sex-trafficking world. 

Her efforts were recognized by many social activists, and she was praised for her social work for the community and beyond that. In 2017, Gauri Sawant was featured in a “Vicks” advertisement. The advertisement showed the story of Gauri and her daughter Gayatri.
