Wanindu Hasaranga Makes History! Becomes Second Bowler in History to Take Three Straight Five-wicket Hauls

Wanindu Hasaranga is a talented Sri Lankan all-rounder. He made his T20I debut in 2016, and soon impressed with eye-catching performances. He is known for his bowling skills and can score crucial runs at crucial times.

He has represented Sri Lanka in all three formats of cricket – Test matches, ODIs, and T20Is. He is an energetic player who has injected new life into the team.

Srilanka vs Ireland

Wanindu Hasaranga has made his mark in the international cricket with a series of match winning performances for Sri Lanka. He is known for his fast bowling and excellent fielding skills. Wanindu Hasarang stats are very good in ODIs and T20Is, but the leg spinner is yet to establish himself in the Test format.

He has a very high economy rate in both the formats and is able to take wickets at regular intervals. He is also a very talented batsman and has scored some brilliant centuries for the country.

Despite the heavy rain that took out around a session, Sri Lanka kept going on the offensive against Ireland. The home team amassed a massive total in their first innings with Dimuth Karunaratne and Sadeera Samarawickrama both scoring centuries.

The Irish struggled with the ball throughout the match as the hosts looked in complete control with their batsmen. But the visitors managed to get some runs on the board and had a chance to save the match with a quick run-chase.

However, the Irish were unable to overcome this challenge as the hosts were in complete control with their bowling and fielding. Wanindu Hasaranga took a brilliant five-wicket haul and became only the second bowler in ODI history to claim three consecutive five-wicket hauls. He followed in the footsteps of legendary Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis who achieved this feat back in 2021.

Srilanka vs Oman

A fine batting display by Dimuth Karunaratne and Pathum Nissanka guided Sri Lanka to an easy 10-wicket win over Oman in the Icc World Cup 2023 qualifier at Bulawayo. Wanindu Hasaranga bowled a superb spell to pick up five wickets and help his side qualify for the Super 6 stage of the tournament.

Oman were rocked early in the innings as Hasaranga, aided by Lahiru Kumara and Kasun Rajitha, kept up their disciplined bowling to rip through their middle and lower order. Ayaan Khan showed some resistance with his unbeaten 41 runs but Oman were still well behind the run-rate by the end of their innings.

Sri Lanka opted to bat first in the one-sided encounter and openers Nissanka and Karunaratne made sure they got off to a fast start with both scoring half-centuries. The pair shared a 92-run stand before Karunaratne struck his fourth boundary to reach his century from only 51 deliveries.

Oman’s middle order was ripped apart by the Wanindu Hasarang bowling as he struck thrice in his final over to put his side in complete control. Ayaan Khan and Jatinder Singh provided some resistance for Oman in the final stages but a collapse saw them fall from 72-7 to 78-9. Hasaranga snatched the last two wickets with successive deliveries to seal a comfortable victory for the hosts.

Srilanka vs UAE

After a poor start to the tournament, Sri Lanka came back strong and thrashed UAE by 79 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga played a key role in the victory by picking up 3 wickets for Sri Lanka. The victory ensured that Sri Lanka would be a part of the ICC World Cup 2023 qualifier team list.

Hasaranga started the innings with a superb caught and bowled to dismiss UAE opener Rohan Mustafa for just 12 runs. He then picked up three more wickets in quick succession to put Sri Lanka in complete control of the game. These included the wickets of Muhammad Waseem, Basil Hameed and Asif Khan.

The target of 356 was always going to be beyond the reach of the UAE side and this was confirmed when Hasaranga removed their number four, Kusal Mendis. His dismissal led to the collapse of the UAE middle order. This allowed Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne and Sadeera Samarawickrama to all hit fifties.

Charith Asalanka and Hasaranga then went berserk in the final three overs to help Sri Lanka to a big total. Asalanka smashed 48 off 23 balls while Hasaranga contributed with a fiery cameo of 23 off 12.

Srilanka vs Zimbabwe

Although Wanindu Hasaranga age is just 25 but he has surpassed Pakistan’s great leg-spinner, Waqar Younis, to become the second bowler in history to take three consecutive five-wicket hauls. The Sri Lanka spinner ripped through Ireland’s batsmen at Queens Sports Club to help the team to a 133-run win in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, on Sunday. Ireland were put in to bat first, but they never looked in control of the innings. Once Dasun Shanaka and Kamindu Mendis perished, the Irish were in serious trouble at 63/4.

Then Hasaranga came in and wiped out their tail to claim a hat-trick on his international debut. He dismissed Donald Tiripano, Malcolm Waller, and Tendai Chatara in the third over of his ODI career to become only the third debutant to ever do so in a first-class game at such an early stage of his international career.

He added to his impressive haul in the next match, when he took 6/24 to help Sri Lanka hammer Oman by a massive margin of 10 wickets. Then, he helped the team to a 175-run victory over the United Arab Emirates at the same venue in their last ODI of the tournament.
